During the workshops participants heard background information about
the proposed Staples Ranch Community Park from City staff, and brief
remarks from representatives who attended the stakeholder meetings.
The first interactive exercise allowed attendees to express ideas about
a vision for the park. This exercise focused on the "feel" of the park
and the character of the park. The consultant team recorded the
specific character input on charts for further use later in the workshop.
Participants then broke into three smaller groups facilitated by RRM
Design Group landscape architects. Each of the break-out groups held
brainstorming sessions on the specific program elements and facilities
that they believed should be included in the park master plan, with all
ideas recorded on large pages. All of the participants then re-grouped to
view the results from each break-out group.
The results from the break-out sessions were displayed, and each
participant was able to view the ideas from the other groups. Each
participant was provided with a green, yellow, and blue sticker,
excluding the representatives from the San Jose Sharks and adjacent
developments. The participants were asked to place the green sticker
on the amenity or facility that they believed was the highest priority for
the park; the yellow sticker as their second priority; and the blue sticker
representing the third priority. Additionally, each person received a
single red sticker to be placed on the vision statement or idea that they
thought best represented the character of the future Staples Ranch
Community Park.
