t.s public process
The Staples Ranch Community Park master plan was prepared based
on input from the community received during three workshops, as
well as several informal stakeholder meetings and input from City
staff regarding project history and background. Since the park is part
of the Staples Ranch annexation process, additional coordination and
communications with the County and adjacent property owners took
place during the preparation of the master plan.
The public workshops were held on February 7, 9 and March 15,
2008, at Mohr Elementary School, located near the park site. Prior to
the February and March public workshops, the consultant team and
City staff held meetings with several organized community groups
(stakeholders) that have been involved in the ongoing discussions
about planning for the Staples Ranch property. These groups included
Friends of Pleasanton, Pleasanton First, the field sports organizations,
and representatives from local tennis interests. The purpose of the
stakeholder meetings was to inform the consultant team regarding
project planning history, park programming desires, and communication
about the upcoming workshops.
The first two public workshops were held on a Thursday and Saturday,
to provide an opportunity for residents and interested parties to attend
one or both meetings designed to influence the character and program
for the park. The City posted meeting notices in four local newspapers,
and mailed 4,000 direct notices to area residents. The workshop agenda
for the Thursday and Saturday meetings were identical. Optional sign-
in sheets were provided and approximately 80 participants attended
each of the two meetings. A third public workshop was also held on
a Saturday, with approximately 60 attendees. There were several
participants that attended each of the three workshops.
