RESOLUTION NO.08- ATTACHMENT 1 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON, SUPPORTING THE INSTALLATION AND ACTIVATION OF WESTBOUND I-580 RAMP METERS IN PLEASANTON WHEREAS, the City of Pleasanton and Caltrans have an I-580 Freeway Maintenance Agreement; and WHEREAS, metering on ramp traffic at freeway interchanges has been found to be very effective in improving traffic flow and reducing traffic collisions on freeways; and WHEREAS, Caltrans staff has agreed to work with City staff in operating the onramp metering system to facilitate both improved freeway and surface street traffic flow; and WHEREAS, recent eastbound ramp metering activation has significantly improved traffic flow on I-580 and reduced regional cut-through traffic in Pleasanton; and WHEREAS, the traffic metering system can be activated at no cost to the City. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY Of PLEASANTON DOES RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE AND ORDER THE FOLLOWING::' SECTION 1. Support the activation of westbound I-580 ramp meters in Pleasanton:.. SECTION 2. If staff or the City Council finds that one or more of the metered rarrips results in unacceptable increases in traffic delays or congestion, Caltrans will - at the City's request -operate the .specified onramp metering lights in constant green mode or at the demand rate during the time period necessary to eliminate the negative impact the. metering light is having on the adjoining City roadway or intersection.
