z <br />THE CITY OF <br />- -~- ~"' CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br />j'L~~S~4NTONo <br />June 3, 2008 <br />Administrative Services <br />TITLE: ADOPT A RESOLUTION CALLING AND GIVING NOTICE OF THE HOLDING OF <br />A GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER <br />4, 2008, FOR THE ELECTION OF A MAYOR AND TWO MEMBERS OF THE CITY <br />COUNCIL AND REQUESTING THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE <br />COUNTY OF ALAMEDA TO CONSOLIDATE THE ELECTION; AND ADOPT A <br />RESOLUTION ADOPTING REGULATIONS FOR CANDIDATES FOR ELECTIVE <br />OFFICE PERTAINING TO CANDIDATE STATEMENTS <br />SUMMARY <br />The purpose of November 2008 election is to elect a Mayor for atwo-year term and two <br />members of the City Council, each for afour-year term. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />1. Adopt a Resolution calling and giving notice of the holding of a general municipal <br />election to be held on Tuesday, November 4, 2008, for the election of a Mayor and <br />two members of the City Council as required by the provisions of the laws of the <br />State of California relating to general law cities and requesting the Board of <br />Supervisors of the County of Alameda to consolidate the elections with the <br />Statewide General Municipal Election. <br />2. Adopt a Resolution adopting regulations for candidates for elective office pertaining <br />to candidate statements submitted to the voters at an election. <br />FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br />Funding in the amount of $75,000 is allocated in the Fiscal Year 2008/09 Operating <br />Budget. Should estimates from the County for their services increase, staff will return <br />for an additional appropriation during the midyear budget review process. <br />
