20
THE CITY OF
-° °~ °~ -~- ~ CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
j~L£~S~4NTONo
May 20, 2008
Community Development Department
TITLE: REVIEW, DISCUSS, AND PROVIDE DIRECTION TO STAFF
REGARDING HILLSIDE PROTECTION REGULATIONS
SUMMARY
On February 19, 2008, the City Council amended its work plan to include a priority to
develop aCity-sponsored hillside protection ordinance. More recently, the City Council
requested that staff advance this discussion and present options for review and
consideration. Staff has identified various options for consideration and requests that
the City Council take action on the following recommendations.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the City Council:
1. Review, discuss, and provide direction to staff regarding City-initiated
hillside protection regulations, including direction on the City Council's
desired public process for implementation of this objective (e.g. task force,
Planning Commission, etc); and/or
2. Incorporate the issues and options identified in this report in the City
Council's review and discussion of Item #21 on tonight's agenda for the
purpose of determining whether to adopt the Initiative or to have it go to a
vote; and/or
3. Request more information of City staff regarding potential hillside
regulations.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
The drafting, implementation, and administration of these regulations would have a
minimal impact on staff resources in the Community Development Department. No
additional funding is being requested at this time.
