BACKGROUND <br />The project consists of the removal and replacement of concrete curb and gutter, <br />sidewalk, driveways and curb through drains and installation of new access ramps on <br />various City streets as shown on Attachment 1. <br />Sidewalk maintenance is a part of an ongoing annual program. The locations are <br />selected from the Streets Division's work order requests and prioritized based on <br />severity of tripping hazards. Curb and gutter locations are selected from drainage <br />problem areas and where severe cracking and displacement of curb and gutter are <br />observed. The. repair locations also include damaged sidewalk and curb and gutter sites <br />evaluated by the City's Engineering Division. <br />DISCUSSION <br />Bids <br />An Engineer's Estimate for the project was calculated at $240,000. Sealed bids were <br />opened on April 17, 2008, with a total of ten bids received that ranged from $162,148:73 <br />to $239,971,.00 (see Attachment 2). The low bid of $162,148.73 was received from. <br />George Bianchi Construction, Inc. of San Jose. All bid documents were found to be in <br />order and past work performed by George Bianchi Construction was verified to be <br />satisfactory. <br />Budget __ <br />The project is fully funded through the City's Capital Improvement Program. Staff is <br />recommending: a 20% project contingency ($33,000.00) based on previous years' <br />experience. where. additional concrete repairs are necessitated during the removal <br />process of damaged concrete.
