BACKGROUND The project consists of the removal and replacement of concrete curb and gutter, sidewalk, driveways and curb through drains and installation of new access ramps on various City streets as shown on Attachment 1. Sidewalk maintenance is a part of an ongoing annual program. The locations are selected from the Streets Division's work order requests and prioritized based on severity of tripping hazards. Curb and gutter locations are selected from drainage problem areas and where severe cracking and displacement of curb and gutter are observed. The. repair locations also include damaged sidewalk and curb and gutter sites evaluated by the City's Engineering Division. DISCUSSION Bids An Engineer's Estimate for the project was calculated at $240,000. Sealed bids were opened on April 17, 2008, with a total of ten bids received that ranged from $162,148:73 to $239,971,.00 (see Attachment 2). The low bid of $162,148.73 was received from. George Bianchi Construction, Inc. of San Jose. All bid documents were found to be in order and past work performed by George Bianchi Construction was verified to be satisfactory. Budget __ The project is fully funded through the City's Capital Improvement Program. Staff is recommending: a 20% project contingency ($33,000.00) based on previous years' experience. where. additional concrete repairs are necessitated during the removal process of damaged concrete. A summary of funding sources and estimated expenditures is presented in Attachment 3.
