Greg Resnick, President, Pleasanton Cultural Arts Foundation, discussed facts about their <br />organization which he said was formed to raise funds to support arts in town, they are <br />enthusiastic about the project which offers a variety of art experiences, children's theater art <br />classes and programs, it further stimulates the economic vitality of the downtown and he <br />recognized those supporting representatives of the arts community. They have raised a total of <br />$1.8 million in pledges which will go toward their groundbreaking this summer. Their long term <br />goal is to raise $3-5 million to support on-going funding for arts; he presented their first donation <br />to the City in the amount of $100,000 and expressed their thanks to the Council and staff for <br />their support. <br />Mayor Hosterman thanked all representatives, said the City is awaiting on the final opportunity <br />to acquire the railroad right-of-way for parking, and the Board of Supervisors heard the request <br />in Closed Session and will hear it again next Tuesday. <br />Mayor Hosterman invited public comment. <br />Charlotte Severin, Chair of the Task Force for the Firehouse Arts Center, said they appreciate <br />the support of City staff, the Council, and the team working on the project. There has been <br />unanimous support for the gift of the glass marquee which supports all ages of the community. <br />She urged the Council to vote in favor of the request and thanked the Harringtons for their <br />generous gift. <br />Councilmember McGovern thanked the Harringtons, said she is excited about the building <br />getting done as well as the outdoor feature of the park and she confirmed with Jim Wolfe that <br />staff was in discussions with Richard Larson and Associates who is developing a scope of <br />service which they hope to bring to the Council in May for award and the design process would <br />take 6-9 months. Councilmember McGovern hoped to see apark-like setting around the <br />building and hoped the timing of the work would coincide with the building construction. <br />City Manager Fialho said staff will be able to award the bid for the Firehouse contract within the <br />next 60 days, said construction is set to begin in the fall, staff is very close to acquiring the <br />transportation corridor, improvements will be made to the parking corridor which will take some <br />time, and then they will start with the park as a priority. <br />Councilmember McGovern confirmed with staff that Mr. O'Connor was already working in the <br />City of Pleasanton with the school district. <br />Motion: It was m/s by Cook-Kallio/McGovern to approve and authorize the City Manager to <br />execute a professional services contract with O'Connor Construction Management, Inc. to <br />provide construction management service for the not-to-exceed amount $472,660; to authorize <br />the City Manager to approve an amendment to contract with EIS Architecture and Urban Design <br />for the not-to-exceed amount of $837,836 for construction related services and additional design <br />work, and accept the donation from Nancy and Gary Harrington for glass marquees located at <br />the east and west entrances of the Firehouse Arts Center.
