Please explain: I~I <br />__..._...._~_. .._...._... __ .. __.~._~ __.~.._ ~._ ___ ---- -...._.~I <br />Describe your driver-training program. <br />Resuonse• <br />Monthly staff meetings are held and include all paratransit staff (dispatchers, drivers, and <br />office aide.) As part of these monthly meetings, on-going training opportunities are <br />scheduled. Training topics include review of daily inspection procedures, CPR, Automated <br />Exterior Defibrillator (AED) and First Aide certification, review of in-home supportive <br />services for seniors, understanding of the City's Scholarship Program, review of proper body <br />mechanics and wheelchair tie down techniques, Downtown Route orientation, review of <br />driver issues/concerns, and on-going communications skills. <br />For FY 2007-08, a new PPS Recruitment and Training Program was implemented. The <br />program includes the following components: <br />• Driver Trainee Education Program structured to recruit individuals as Recreation <br />Aides that meet the PPS core competencies, but lack a Class B Passenger <br />Endorsement license. A 12 week training and testing period began in January <br />2008, with three (3) applicants participating in the Driver Trainee Education <br />Program. Through this program, the City hopes to maintain a qualified pool of <br />Paratransit Drivers. <br />• On-going Class B Driver Education to include One-on-One Audits of existing <br />drivers/dispatchers to begin in Spring 2008, and twice-yearly Defensive Driving <br />In-Class Training, with the first course offering completed in October 2007. <br />• As needed, One-On-One Defensive Driving Refresher Training for <br />drivers/dispatchers involved in a preventable accident. <br />• Behind-The-Wheel Driver assessment for qualified applicants in full time <br />driver/dispatcher recruitments. <br />Page 7 of 23 <br />C:\Documents and Settings\pdeaton\L.ocal Settings\Temporary Internet Files\OLK3\Annual Program Application Cover FY0708 March 31 <br />2008.doc <br />
