and that it is possible that utility and water lines that might
be located along the road may be subject to disruption in the
event of an earthquake. In addition, the DEIR indicates at
page 37 that locally high levels of ground water could hamper
construction when water levels are high during the rainy
season, that construction of houses on any landslide deposits
within the Project area could create problems for foundation
stability, utility lines, and roads in the event of an
earthquake and that any porous and ezpansive soils could
adversely affect foundations and underground lines in the event
of an earthquake.
:he EIR indicates on page 37 that the Project site is
subject to moderate to high impacts from seismic shaking, and
that these impacts should be evaluated through site-specific
geologic investigations. A 1987 study of the property
demonstrated that there are no active fault traces on the site,
as discussed at page 36 of the DEIR. The DEIR notes at page 37
that groundwater is located at a depth of eight feet in the
northern portion of the site, and that seepage occurs in the
ravines north and south of the Alviso Adobe.
To mitigate these impacts, one mitigation measure is
incorporated into the Project. Mitigation number 1, as
described at page 38 of the DEIR, provides that detailed
geotechnical engineering studies shall be submitted to the City
Engineer for review before approval of precise site development
plans. These studies would evaluate ezisting conditions and
7
