Lunch for the event was provided at the Village High School Cafe, including <br />presentations by Mayor Jennifer Hosterman, and School Board President Jim Ott. After <br />lunch, participating students were assigned to meet in four (4) groups to discuss Mental <br />Health and Substance Abuse issues affecting Pleasanton. City and School District staff <br />facilitated the discussions, with each group selecting a recorder and spokesperson. <br />The following is a summary of the group discussions: <br />Mental Health <br />Issues Suggested Solutions <br />^ Depression 1. Offer health assemblies beyond <br /> freshman health classes, <br />^ Stress w/breakout sessions similar to <br /> the suicide presentations <br />^ High expectations and workload <br /> 2. In health classes, discuss <br />^ Peer pressure balance and scheduling time for <br /> yourself (working out and <br />^ Availability and knowledge of relaxing), and the importance of <br />resources surrounding yourself with <br /> positive people <br />^ Family issues <br /> 3. Encourage counselors and <br />^ Future planning and time teachers to meet with students <br />management more on a one-on-one basis to <br /> provide a variety of support <br /> services beyond academics <br /> 4. Teen Center -provide <br /> intramural sports and <br /> programs/classes for teens on <br /> weekends and after school <br />Page 2 of 3 <br />
