THE CITY OF ~ 0 -•• ~_ ° -~- ~"' CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT j~L£~S~4NTONo March 18, 2008 Public Works Department TITLE: APPROVAL OF A CONSULTANT AGREEMENT WITH BIGGS CARDOSA ASSOCIATES IN THE AMOUNT OF $149,700 TO PROVIDE ENGINEERING AND CONSTRUCTION SUPPORT SERVICES FOR THE BERNAL AVENUE BRIDGE (NEAR VINEYARD) AT ARROYO DEL VALLE, CIP NO. 995067 SUMMARY The plans and specifications for construction of the Bernal Avenue Bridge at Arroyo Del Valle (near Vineyard) were completed by Biggs Cardosa Associates (BCA) six years ago in 2002. This set of plans and specifications are now out of date and in need of reevaluation and revision to meet current specifications and field conditions. The proposed consultant contract with BCA will provide the professional engineering services to revise the current plans and specifications and to provide construction support services for the project. RECOMMENDATION 1. Approve the attached professional design services agreement with BCA to provide professional engineering services in the amount of $149,700 for the subject project. 2. Authorize the City Manager to execute the agreement. FINANCIAL STATEMENT Funds for the construction project were allocated in the Capital Improvement Program budget for fiscal years 1999-00, 2000-01, 2001-02, and 2002-03. In addition, there is an amount of $784,236 from developers allocated to this project, resulting in a current project balance of $1,894,940 between CIP Nos. 995067 (Bernal Avenue Bridge) and 005029 (Bernal Avenue Widening). Additional project funding is proposed in the fiscal year 2008-09 budget in the amount of $2,819,900. It is proposed that funding for this contract with BCA be provided from CIP No. 995067.
