BACKGROUND The Trails Ad Hoc Committee (TAHC) advises the Parks and Recreation Commission on trails and trail-related issues in Pleasanton. In May 2007, staff began the recruitment process for replacement TAHC members due to terms set to expire in September, 2007. On June 14, 2007, Commissioners Jerry Pentin and Ted Kinzer were appointed to serve as a Selection Subcommittee to review applications, interview candidates, and provide recommendations to the full Commission. Interviews were conducted in August 2007, resulting in a list of several quality candidates. In October 2007, the Commission reviewed and endorsed the Selection Subcommittee's recommendations, and the City Council appointed three (3) residents to the Trails Ad Hoc Committee in November 2007. The appointees were: • Deborah Wahl (Community-at-Large member); • Ralph Rajs (Non-Motorized Transportation representative); and • Joe Streng (Community-at-Large alternate). DISCUSSION In December 2007, Committee member Joe Jones resigned, citing the need to spend more time with his family. Mr. Jones served as one of the Community-at-Large members, prompting the need for a replacement. When contacted by staff, alternate Joe Streng indicated his willingness to fill Mr. Jones' vacant position, which would leave the alternate position vacant. Due to the timing of the recent recruitment, staff contacted the Selection Subcommittee for a recommendation. The Selection Subcommittee reviewed its list, and recommended Julia Casamajor, the next person on the list, for the alternate position. Ms. Casamajor indicated an interest in serving on the Committee, and her appointment was submitted to the full Commission for consideration. On February 11, 2008, the Commission endorsed the Selection Subcommittee's recommendation, and both Mr. Streng's and Ms. Casamajor's appointments are being forwarded to the City Council for ratification. ubmitted by: Ja es W.
