City of Pleasanton )
STAFF 4U
REPORT

April 21, 1987

HONO~BLN MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
Pleasanton, California

Zn~orsement of the Recommendations of the San Ramon
Branohline/I-680 Corridor Transportation Study

Mayor and Members of the Council:

Background

The study of the San Ramon Branchline/I-680 Corridor was
initiated late in 1984 by the Contra Costa County Board of
Supervisors to evaluate possible transit alternatives to help
relieve future congestion in the 1-680 Corridor from Concord to
Pleasanton. It does not include the Southern Pacific or Western
Pacific right-of-ways through downtown Pleasanton. The County
retained a consulting team headed by DMJM to conduct the study.
· However, a steering committee was formed to guide the study with
policy-level representatives of affected jurisdictions and
agencies as well as private business interests. A Technical
Advisory Committee (TAC) was also formed. The City of Pleasanton
was represented on the TAC by the Director of Public Works.

Although completion of the study was' expected in early 1985,
several factors effected changes to the study procedures and
schedule. Paramount was the decision for this study and the
Metropolitan Transportation Commission's 1-580/I-680 Corridor
study to use a consistent data base and a new travel forecasting
model developed by DKS Associates. This caused a delay in
conducting analytical tasks but was a benefit in that consistent
demographic assumptions about the Tri-Valley were applied to both
studies.

The draft final report was completed in January, 1987. Community
meetings were held on the report April 7, 8 and 9th in San Ramon,
Walnut Creek and Dublin respectively. Comments received will be
presented to the Steering Committee and Board of Supervisors in
June.

SR87:169
