Based on our June 15, 2007 meeting, the following is
our understanding of the updated scope of work:
1. Extend the right turn pocket for westbound to northbound traffic on Valley Avenue east
of Santa Rita Road for a total right turn pocket length of approximately 170'. In addition
to modifications to the existing curb, gutter and asphalt, this improvement will involve
reconfiguring the sidewalk and removal of some landscaping. There is a PG&E high
voltage vault that will require relocation if the right turn pocket is extended
concentrically with the street centerline. As part of the preliminary design phase,
Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. (KHA) will look at alternate lane configurations in an
attempt to avoid relocation of the vault. Viable options will be presented to the City.
2. Relocate median curb adjacent to the left turn pocket on Valley Avenue east of Santa Rita
Road to allow for one right, two through, and two left turn lanes westbound. In addition
to modifications to the existing curb, gutter and asphalt, the relocation will require the
installation of a catch basin to capture water running along the new easterly curb line.
Removal and replacement of asphalt in an area larger that the immediate island location
may be required to provide the grades necessary to drain the roadway. This portion of
the project will include removal and installation of embedded river rock on the median
and installation of landscaping. The median nose will be located to accept a future triple
left from southbound Santa Rita Road to eastbound Valley Avenue
3. Relocation of the south curb on Valley Avenue east of Santa Rita Road to allow for three
eastbound lanes. In addition to modifications to the existing curb, gutter and asphalt, this
portion of the project will include relocation of one high voltage PG&E vault,
modification of the storm drain system, replacement of the sidewalk, and re-grading the
sod berm to maintain slopes of not more than 4:1 (5:1 desirable). There are several
mature trees that will need to be removed and replaced as well as substantial
modifications to the irrigation system.
4. Modify the "pork chop" island on the southeast corner of the intersection to allow for a
future triple left from southbound Santa Rita Road to eastbound Valley Avenue. All
pedestrian facilities will be designed to ADA standards.
S:\Marketing\_Proposal & SOQ\Pleasanton\Santa Rita and Valley\Updated Letter Proposal.doc
