BACKGROUND
The Vineyard Corridor Specific Plan required a number of water and sewer
infrastructure improvements to be made to serve the new planning area. One of the
water system requirements was to make improvements to an existing City/Zone 7
metering station, known as the City's Turnout No. 6. This project was designed,
advertised, and bid, with the City Council awarding the contract on February 6, 2007.
The low bid was submitted by Gateway Pacific Contractors, Inc. in the amount of
$231,312. There was only one change order on the project, which reduced the height
of the communications antenna, resulting in a cost savings of $2,680.09. As a result,
the final project cost is $228,631.91, which is less than the Council approved project
expenditures. The project was also completed on schedule and is now ready for
acceptance by the City of Pleasanton. Zone 7 has inspected the project and will accept
it upon receipt of final documentation and drawings of record.
As noted, the turnout was part of Vineyard Avenue Corridor Specific Plan water
infrastructure improvements approved by the City Council last year. The remaining
water infrastructure work for the VCSP includes the completion of the water storage
tank, the booster pump station, the tank access road and the water distribution pipeline
to the tank.
In general, all the infrastructure improvements have been progressing according to
budget and schedule and it is anticipated that all remaining VCSP water facilities will be
completed within six months. The budget and funding status of the VCSP water
improvements is listed below.
Vineyard Avenue Specific Plan Budget
Approved Budget:
Water Tank and access road (construction, Construction Management, Contingency) $4,602,000
Pump Station (Construction, Construction Management, Contingency) $2,731,348
Zone 7 Turnout (construction> $231,312
Total $7,564,660
EXpendltUreS (current estimate of final costs):
Water Tank and access road (construction, Construction Management, Contingency) $4,766,500*
Pump Station (Construction, Construction Management, Contingency) $2,452,250
Zone 7 Turnout (construction) $228,632
Total $7,447,382
*Note: The estimated increase in water tank and access road expenditures are
attributed primarily to unforeseen soil conditions requiring removal of unstable soils and
the replacement and compaction of suitable soil materials.
Page2of3
