BAKER <br />CONSTRUCTION COMPANY IN THE AMOUNT OF $416,000 FOR <br />TRAFFIC SIGNAL INSTALLATION AT THE INTERSECTION OF BERNAL <br />AVENUE AND I-680 FREEWAY S/B OFF-RAMP, CIP NO. 005068, AND <br />COMPLETION OF THE TRAFFIC SIGNAL SYSTEM AT VINEYARD <br />AVENUE AND PIETRONAVE LANE, CIP NO. 075014 <br />SUMMARY <br />Bids have been received for the subject project and staff is recommending award of the <br />construction contract to the lowest responsible bidder, John D. Baker Construction <br />Company, in the amount of $416,000. The work consists of installing a complete traffic <br />signal system at the intersection of the Bernal Avenue and I-680 Freeway southbound <br />off-ramp and completing the traffic signal system at the intersection of Vineyard Avenue <br />and Pietronave Lane. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />1. Approve the plans and specifications for the subject project. <br />2. Review the bids received and award the construction contract to John D. <br />Baker Construction Company of Stockton, California, for a low bid amount of <br />$416,000. <br />3. Authorize the City Manager to enter into the above construction contract. <br />4. Authorize the Director of Public Works to approve and execute contract <br />change orders for a contingency amount not to exceed $41,600 (10% of <br />construction bid), if necessary, for related subject project work <br />FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br />There will be an increase in maintenance costs due to the additional signalized <br />intersection in the City and related signing and striping and utility costs. Project funding <br />and estimated expenditures are presented in Attachment 1. <br />
