BACKGROUND
The Pleasanton Police Officers Association (PPOA) covers the classifications of Police
Officer and Police Sergeant, representing approximately 78 sworn employees. The
current Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the City of Pleasanton and the
PPOA became effective on June 1, 2001 and expires May 31, 2008. Representatives
from both parties are required to meet and confer on matters covered within the scope
of representation to develop a successor agreement.
In the recent past, the City's practice is to present the matter in public session to allow
for open discussion in two sessions. The first session provides an opportunity to
introduce the matter and receive input from the City Council and/or the public prior to
formal action. The representatives from the City and PPOA will engage in the meet and
confer process. All agreements reached between during this process are tentative until
the contract, in its entirety, is ratified by PPOA and then approved by the City Council.
Staff anticipates bringing the new Memorandum of Understanding to Council in mid-
2008.
Submitted by:
,~
e Yuan-Miu
Assistant City Manager
Approve y:
Nelson Fialho
City Manager
