THE CITY OF ~ O
i
L~E~S~4NTONo CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
February 19, 2008
Public Works Department
TITLE: ADOPT RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE TRAFFIC ENGINEER TO
INSTALL STOP SIGNS WHEN WARRANTED
SUMMARY
Traffic Engineering receives numerous requests to review the need for stop signs in
Pleasanton. The City of Pleasanton Municipal Code provides authority to the Traffic
Engineer "when empowered" to install stop signs within the City of Pleasanton.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the City Council adopt the attached resolution clarifying the role
of the Traffic Engineer to install stop signs at locations when intersections meet the
guidelines and warrants identified in the California Manual of Uniform Traffic Control
Devices.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
Installation of stop signs, pavement stop legends, and pavement stop bars are
estimated to have a total cost of $600 per occurrence. Stop signs and pavement
legends will require periodic replacement at an annualized cost of $100 per year. The
Traffic Engineer will ensure that budget funds are sufficient to cover the cost of any stop
signs installed.
