THE CITY OF <br />-- °'i ° -~- "" CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br />~L£~S~4NTONo <br />February 19, 2008 <br />Public Works Department <br />TITLE: APPROVE PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS, REVIEW BIDS AND AWARD <br />CONTRACT FOR ANNUAL SIDEWALK AND ACCESS RAMP <br />INSTALLATION, CIP NO. 075005 <br />SUMMARY <br />Bids have been received for the subject project and staff is recommending award of:the <br />construction contract to the lowest responsible bidder in the amount of $167,827. The <br />project consists of the construction of 70 intersection ramps and 4 raised islands with <br />passageways, resulting in easier access to sidewalks for bicycles and pedestrians with <br />wheelchairs and strollers. Project locations are along Holland Drive, Singletree Way, <br />Hopyard Road, Valley Avenue, Highland Oaks Drive and Woodthrush Road. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />1. Approve the plans and specifications for this project. <br />2. Review the bids received and award the construction contract for the subject project <br />to J.J.R. Construction, Inc. of San Mateo in the amount of $167,827. <br />3. Authorize the City Manager to enter into the above contract. <br />4. Authorize the Director of Public Works to approve and execute contract change <br />orders for a contingency amount not-to-exceed $33,565 (20% of the contract) for <br />necessary related subject project work. <br />5. Authorize the transfer of the balance ($154,950) of CIP No. 065005, Annual <br />Sidewalk and Access Ramp Installation, to the current year, CIP No. 075005, for <br />ease of project accounting. <br />FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br />This project will replace and upgrade existing infrastructure and should not increase <br />maintenance costs. <br />
