6 <br />THE CITY Of <br />-~ ~ CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br />PL£~S~NTONo <br />February 19, 2008 <br />Police Department <br />TITLE: APPROVAL OF RECOMMENDATIONS FOR USE OF CITIZENS' OPTION <br />FOR PUBLIC SAFETY PROGRAM (COPS) YEAR 12 APPROPRIATION <br />SUMMARY <br />State Assembly Bill 3229 of July 12~', 1996 established the Citizens' Options for Pubic <br />Safety (COPS) funding program. These funds, allocated from the State Budget, are <br />distributed to local law enforcement to support line level law enforcement functions. <br />This past year, Governor Schwarzenegger has renewed funding for fiscal year <br />2007/2008. The City of Pleasanton has received a $132,210 from the State of <br />California. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends the City Council hold a public hearing and adopt the attached <br />resolution approving expenditures from the State of California COPS program funds and <br />approve an FY 2007/08 budget amendment reflecting the identified uses. <br />FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br />Through this program the State of California provides supplemental funding to municipal <br />law enforcement agencies. There is no requirement for matching funds. <br />
