Commissioner Pearce noted that at Walnut Grove Elementary School, her son parked his bike
next to a dumpster, and she had tried unsuccessfully to get the bike racks moved so that more
students would use their bikes. Ms. Stern noted that the City could encourage that suggestion.
Chairperson Fox noted that the Livermore General Plan included an identification of all the
Class I and Class II bicycle trails and suggested that the Pleasanton General Plan include that
information in the Circulation Element. Mr. Tassano stated that the Community Trails Master
Plan was included in this document and that staff was going through a Bicycle Master Plan that
would better identify the Class I, Class II, and Class III facilities. He noted that information was
another year away from being completed.
Page 3-45
Commissioner Pearce noted a typographical error in Program 22.10.
• Replace the phrase "identity areas" with "identify areas."
Commissioner Pearce noted that with reference to Program 23.1, she was in favor of supporting
walkability issues and inquired whether that should be required of places like the Oak Grove
development. Ms. Stern noted that a meandering pathway would also qualify as a walkway in
the hills.
Chairperson Fox liked the wording from Livermore's General Plan, which reads: "Improve the
safety of bicyclists and pedestrians by educating all the residents about bicycle and pedestrian
safety and by enforcing bicycle and motorist laws and regulations affecting pedestrian and
bicycle safety."
Ms. Stern noted that Mr. Paxson mentioned "sustainable development and planning" and
inquired whether the Commission would like to see his suggestions incorporated. The
Commissioners agreed.
• Incorporate Mr. Paxson's suggested language with respect to sustainable development
and planning.
Chairperson Fox requested an updated redlined version of the changes. Ms. Stern noted that a
new copy including the highlighted changes would be distributed to the Commission.
No action was taken.
EXCERPTS: PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES, October 24, 2007 Page 15 of 15
