Donna
A question that I will be raising this evening.
According to the staff report, staff appears to be considering the red tail hawk to be a
'fowl' .
According to the research that I have done, Hawks belong to:
Kingdom: Animalia <file:///\\wiki\Animal>
Phylum: Chordata <file:///\\wiki\Chordate>
Class: Aves <file:///\\wiki\Bird>
Order: Falconiformes <file:///\\wiki\Falconiformes>
Fowls belong to the following....
Kingdom: Animalia <file:///\\wiki\Animalia>
Phylum: Chordata <file:///\\wiki\Chordata>
Class: Aves <file:///\\wiki\Aves>
Order: Neornithes <file:///\\wiki\Neornithes>
For example, here is a chicken
Kingdom: Animalia <file:///\\wiki\Animal>
Phylum: Chordata <file:///\\wiki\Chordate>
Class: Aves <file:///\\wiki\Bird>
Order: Galliformes <file:///\\wiki\Galliformes>
Most of the research that I have done has indicated that Fowl is often synonomous with
poulty. Apparently in some languages, there is not a distinction between the two words
poultry and fowl. While some dictionaries contain the definition of Fowl being a bird of
any kind, there is not consistent usage around that definition.
Out of curiousity, I looked up wolf and found
Kingdom: Animalia <file:///\\wiki\Animal>
Phylum: Chordata <file:///\\wiki\Chordate>
Class: Mammalia <file:///\\wiki\Mammal>
Order: Carnivora <file:///\\wiki\Carnivora>
Family: Canidae <file:///\\wiki\Canidae>
Genus: Canis <file:///\\wiki\Canis>
Species: C. lupus
I looked up dog and found
Kingdom: Animalia <file:///\\wiki\Animal>
Phylum: Chordata <file:///\\wiki\Chordate>
Class: Mammalia <file:///\\wiki\Mammal>
Order: Carnivora <file:///\\wiki\Carnivora>
Family: Canidae <file:///\\wiki\Canidae>
Genus: Canis <file:///\\wiki\Canis>
Species: C. lupus <file:///\\wiki\Gray Wolf>
Subspecies: C. 1. familiaris
As you can see, the order 'breaks' much higher in the case of fowl versus hawk...
Please note the following link
http://www.britannica.com/eb/article-9035053/fowl
<http://www.britannica.com/eb/article-9035053/fowl>
All of the descriptions are about chickens. .
2
