PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The applicant is requesting an animal conditional use permit to retain her existing red-
tailed hawk. The approval of the animal use permit would allow one (1) hawk to be kept
in the rear yard of the property. The site plan below shows the location where the hawk
is kept.
SI"f Pt11tJ
~~ v- t
~~..
The applicant is a licensed Class 1 falconry apprentice and has received all applicable
federal and state and agency licensing for keeping the hawk. The keeping of the hawk is
for sporting purposes in that training the bird provides the training of the apprentice
falconer. Keeping the red-tail hawk allows the applicant to progress in her expertise in
falconry. Additionally, State licensing requirements limit the number of hawks that can
be kept based on the licenses and license type that are held. In this case, the applicant is
limited to one hawk based on her level of falconry. The applicant has also received a
Resident Hunting License for the hawk; hunting is allowed only in designated locations.
These locations are open space areas well away from urban or suburban developments
which allow a clear visual line of site that can be maintained between the hawk and the
falconer.
The following page includes pictures ofred-tailed hawks and a picture of the applicant
with her hawk.
PAUP-4, Jennifer Hosterman /Hawk
Planning Commission
