The water demand for the system shall be determined by multiplying the design area of <br />the largest compartment by the specified application rate. Additional demand is <br />required for domestic use as specified in Section 4-1.2.1 (above). <br />CHAPTER 4-System Design -amended <br />Section 4-2.6 is added to read: <br />(a) Pilot fire sprinkler protection and fire detection shall be provided in all attic spaces. <br />Pilot fire sprinkler locations shall be near heat or fire sources, i.e., HVAC equipment, <br />water heaters, kitchen duct/exhaust penetrations, or other electrical or gas fired <br />equipment, etc. <br />(b) Pilot fire sprinkler sprig ups or risers shall be braced in accordance with pipe <br />manufacturers' recommendations for vertical support and within 4 to 6 inches of the fire <br />sprinkler when the vertical riser exceeds 30 inches vertically. <br />Chapter 4-System Design -amended <br />Section 4-6 Location of Sprinklers is amended to read: <br />Sprinklers shall be installed in all areas. <br />Exception #1: Sprinklers may be omitted from bathrooms not exceeding 55 square feet <br />(5.1 m) with non-combustible fixtures. <br />Exception #2: Sprinklers may be omitted from small closets where the least dimension <br />does not exceed 3 feet. (0.9 M), the area does not exceed 24 square feet (2.2 m), and <br />the walls and ceiling are surfaced with non-combustible materials. <br />Exception #3: Sprinklers may be omitted from attics and crawl spaces which are not <br />used or intended for living purposes or storage in buildings with no more than four (4) <br />dwelling units, except pilot sprinklers are required as per section 4-2.6 (above). <br />Note: See Chapter 4 System Design for provisions in buildings with five (5) to fifteen <br />(15) dwelling units not exceeding twelve thousand square feet (12,000 square feet). <br />CHAPTER 4-System Design -amended <br />Table 4-4.3(a) Pressure Losses in psi/ft. for Schedule 40 Steel Pipe(C=120) and Table <br />4-4.3(c) Equivalent length of Fittings and Valves for Schedule 40 Steel Pipe in Feet is <br />deleted. <br />Notes: <br />1. All service connections (except fire service connections) shall be made downstream <br />of the restriction in the domestic service line. <br />2. The one-half (~/2) inch restrictor and both Tees shown on this drawing shall be on the <br />46 <br />
