The number of design sprinklers shall be as follows: <br />(a) Standard for One (1) to Four (4) Dwelling Units up to twelve thousand (12,000) <br />square feet. <br />The number of design sprinklers shall include all sprinklers within a compartment <br />to a maximum of four (4) sprinklers. When the number of design sprinklers is less than <br />four (4) for a compartment, the design shall include a five (5) gallon per minute <br />domestic use simultaneous with sprinkler flow per unit. This domestic use shall be <br />calculated at the base of riser. <br />Pilot sprinklers shall be provided in the attic and between floors where floor/ceiling <br />assemblies consist of open web wood joists or trusses. Pilot sprinklers shall be 212 <br />degree F, x/16 inch orifice. Pilot sprinklers shall be located at maximum 30 feet centers <br />(Maximum 15 feet from outside walls) and shall be located at all heat and fire sources <br />including furnaces, hot water heaters, above kitchen ranges, etc. Fire sprinklers in <br />garages shall be 200 degree F, quick response, x/16 inch orifice (K=4.0 to 4.5) with a <br />maximum spacing of 130 to 150 square feet per sprinkler. <br />(b) Standard for Mid-Sized Multi-Family Residential Sprinkler Systems for Five (5) to <br />Fifteen (15) Dwelling Units in Residential Structures Not Exceeding twelve thousand <br />square feet (12,000 square feet) shall be as follows: <br />The number of design sprinklers shall be the hydraulically most remote six (6) sprinklers <br />above or below the ceiling. When a common fire sprinkler and domestic water supply is <br />provided, the fire sprinkler calculation shall include the simultaneous domestic flow of <br />five (5) gallons per minute per dwelling unit. This domestic flow shall be calculated at <br />the base of the riser. <br />Exception: This standard does not include hotels, motels, or day care centers with more <br />than twelve (12) occupants. <br />(c) Sprinklers shall be provided in attics and between floors where floor/ceiling <br />assemblies consist of open web wood joists or trusses. <br />Exception: Townhouses with approved one-hour separations at the property line shall <br />have pilot sprinklers per (a) above. <br />CHAPTER 4-System Design -amended <br />Section 4-1.3- Water Demand is amended to read: <br />(a.)
