BACKGROUND <br />The subject project consists of removing existing damaged sanitary sewer mains, <br />laterals and manholes and installing new 8" and 14" sewer mains, laterals with two-way <br />cleanout and manholes along Old Bernal Avenue, Bernal Court, Amaral Circle and parts <br />of Mirador Avenue (see Attachment 1). The street improvements portion of the project <br />will include the replacement of curb, sidewalk, driveways, traffic striping and <br />landscaping. The project locations were selected from a list generated by the Utilities <br />Division and coordinated with the City's street resurfacing schedule. <br />Project funding will be provided from the Annual Sewer Replacement fund and from <br />amounts appropriated to CIP Nos. 062002 and 072002. In addition, staff is <br />recommending an additional appropriation of $95,500 from the sewer replacement fund. <br />The amount to be requested next fiscal year for the annual sanitary sewer replacement <br />(CIP No. 082002) will be reduced by $95,500. A project budget summary is provided as <br />Attachment 2. <br />Bid Process <br />Sealed bids for this project were opened on November 1, 2007. There were ten bids <br />received ranging from $451,895 to $687,670 (see Attachment 3). The engineer's <br />estimate for the project was $515,240. The apparent low bidder was McNamara & <br />Smallman Construction, Inc. of Livermore, California, with a submitted bid of $451,895. <br />All submitted bid documents from McNamara &Smallman were found to be in order. <br />This contractor has performed previous work for the City of Pleasanton on similar <br />projects, with satisfactory results. <br />Schedule <br />The proposed schedule for the subject project is as follows: <br />Council Award of Contract January, 2008 <br />Start of Construction February, 2008 <br />End of Construction April, 2008 <br />Submitted by: Fiscal Review: <br />~~~~~ <br />Rob Wilson David P.
