Eden I&R/211
2
2. Why the number of Pleasanton 2-1-1 call volume is not higher
The Alameda County 2-1-1 phone service officially started just 5 months ago but has already served
15,656 callers (through November 30`h). Since July 1, 2007 Eden I&R has been doing extensive outreach
countywide in order to publicize the new 2-1-1 phone line. We have sent thousands of outreach mass
mailings to:
- all superintendents' of schools;
- the libraries;
- community based organizations; and
- faith-based organizations.
Next we are targeting all police and fire chiefs. Additional mass mailings will follow to other targeted
populations.
In addition, the agency has sent staffto a variety of events and meetings to distribute 2-1-1 flyers and
posters as well as make presentations about the benefits of 2-1-1 for individuals in need of assistance and
their advocates. Example outreach activities included: Hospital Council of Northern California
presentations; Family Summer 2007 Housing Outreach Fair booth; Everyone Home presentations; Public
Health Nursing of Alameda County mailing; Central Labor Council presentation; Alameda County
Veteran's Commission presentation; Alameda County Emergency Manager's Association presentations
and drills; Area Agency on Aging contractor meeting; Tri Valley Housing Opportunity Center
distribution of 100 flyers and posters; SAVE distribution of 100 flyers and posters; One Stop Center in
Pleasanton distribution of 100 flyers and posters; ECHO Agency Fair and Seminar presentation in
Pleasanton; and Pleasanton Senior Center distribution of flyers and posters.
Because Eden I&R is a relatively small non-profit organization, we are relying on the partnerships with
each city to help us inform all of their residents and employees about the new 2-1-1 services. We have
been working with other cities, as they approve their 2-1-1 funding, to do a variety of activities to get the
word out about 2-1-1. For example, the City of Oakland has our phone number on their voicemail
message when people are on hold; Fremont has invited us to speak at a variety of large coalition meetings
like their Family Resource Center Executive Director meetings.
Because the city of Pleasanton is the last city to approve 2-1-1 funding, we have not had the opportunity
as yet to work on a PR plan for your city. Of course Pleasanton was included in our mass mailings as
indicated above but additional, more focused marketing efforts can take place with your city's assistance.
Please let me know ifyou have any further questions or concerns related to 2-1-1. I can be reached at
510-537-2710, ext. 8; or by email at bbernstein(a.edenir org.
Sincerely,
Barbara Bernstein
Executive Director
