FIRE ENGINEER <br /> <br /> DEFINITION <br /> <br /> Under supervision, the fire engineer is primarily responsible for <br /> the operation of an assigned piece of fire apparatus~ performs <br /> all duties of a firefighter, as assigned~ performs related work, <br /> as required. <br /> <br /> TYPICAL DUTIES <br /> <br />1. Drives an assigned piece of apparatus~ at emergencies <br /> operates assigned apparatus~ performs apparatus and equipment <br /> inspections~ routing maintenance and repair and testing~ <br /> instructs others in proper use of apparatus. <br /> <br /> 2. Performs a variety of fire suppression, rescue and medical <br /> assistance tasks. <br /> <br />3. Perf6rms tasks associated' with hydrant maintenance/ <br /> identification and station/equipment maintenance, to include: <br /> carpentry, painting, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and <br /> cleaning work. <br /> <br /> 4. Conducts fire inspections and pre-fire plan inspections. <br /> <br /> 5. Assists with presentations before groups and individuals on <br /> fire related subjects~ conducts station tours. <br /> <br /> 6. Assists in the investigation of the causes of fires. <br /> <br />MINIMUM QUALIFICATION8 <br /> <br /> Knowledge of: <br /> <br />1. Modern fire fighting practices and procedures. <br /> 2. Hydraulics as it applies to fire fighting. <br /> 3. Proper practices and procedures associated with the operation <br /> and maintenance of fire apparatus. <br /> 4. Accepted company inspection procedures. <br /> <br />Skill to: <br /> <br />1. Operate and maintain fire apparatus. <br />2. Perform required fire fighting tasks. <br />3. Make oral presentations. <br /> <br />Education: <br /> <br />High school graduation, or GED equivalent. <br /> <br /> <br />
