Dan Stewart said he was a neighbor of Ms. Luce and supports the neighborhood in voicing opposition to the airport noise. He called the airport and encouraged the City to move forward with the EIR, felt the airport continues to hide behind FAA regulations, and felt the noise was more from rogue pilots and not those conducting regular business flights. He encouraged the Council to find out how to protect the citizens of Pleasanton. Nancy Harrington said it is very difficult for them to get around and there were only certain times of the day when they can leave their home. In the past week she attended the Caltrans meeting regarding the 84 Expressway and felt it was the Council's viewpoint to look at what was best for all of Pleasanton and not just those who live in particular neighborhoods. She attended the proposed Home Depot meeting which she felt compounds traffic problems and hoped the Council will look at all roadways to help alleviate traffic. He noted the Bemal property will yield 317 acres of parkland in exchange for 581 housing units and require millions of tax dollars for improvements in decades for public access compared to Oak Grove allowing 51 homes in exchange for 496 acres of permanent public trails and open space completed at no cost to the taxpayers and accessible in our lifetime. The land acquisition also offers the ability to complete the trail connection from Shadow Cliffs and the Callippe Preserve which is included in both Pleasanton and the EBRPD Master Plans. He applauded Mayor Hosterman and Councilmember Sullivan's vision and effort towards this being the first piece of a permanent 2,000 acre greenbelt, bringing finality to sprawl in the southeast hills, and Councilmembers Cook-Kallio and Thome's support for parks, trails and permanent open space. Janice Phalen read a letter into the record from Becky Dennis who could not be present. The letter indicated her support for the final approval of the plan for Oak Grove; the plan preserves natural resources, minimizes development impacts on immediate neighbors and maximizes community benefits while respecting property rights of the land owner.
