BACKGROUND
This project provided for clearing and grubbing, the removal and disposal of the existing
fence and associated footings, the installation of temporary fencing for thirteen
residences abutting the existing fence, an irrigation system, landscape restoration
where necessary, and installation of 947 linear feet of new wood fencing. The existing
fence was originally constructed with the Stoneridge Drive interchange, and after
previous repairs by the City, was beyond further repair. The replacement fence consists
of a low retaining section to support dirt on the residence side of the fence, with a fence
height of 6 feet. On the Zone 7 channel and Stoneridge Drive side, the fence height is 8
feet. The fence has been constructed with fence boards on both sides to reduce traffic
noise to the existing homes.
The project was awarded by City Council on December 5, 2006, to SRP Company of
Antioch, California, in the amount of $228,982. At that time, the City Council also
authorized the Director of Public Works to approve change orders up to a contingency
amount of $45,796. Change orders in the amount of $31,093.91 were issued that
provided for additional demolition work, the restoration of existing landscaping and
irrigation systems, with the bulk of the work related to repairs of the existing nearby
wooden bridge decking.
