9 <br />THE CITY OF <br />-~ ~ -~- ~"' CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br />j~L£ ~S~4NTONo <br />December 4, 2007 <br />Parks and Community Services Department <br />TITLE: AWARD OF CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT FOR WEST LAS POSITAS <br />MEDIAN ISLAND LANDSCAPING, PHASE 1, PROJECT N0.037042 <br />SUMMARY <br />Bids have been received for the construction of landscape improvements to the median <br />islands on West Las Positas Boulevard, east of Santa Rita Road. Staff is <br />recommending award of the construction contract to the low bidder, Planned <br />Environments, Inc., in the amount of $213,369. This first phase of the project consists <br />of complete renovation of landscaping and irrigation systems in nine (9) median islands, <br />from Santa Rita Road to Thistledown Court. This work will result in roadway <br />landscaping that is more manageable by the Parks Maintenance Division, provides for <br />better vehicular sight distance and improved attractiveness, commensurate in quality <br />with other roadway landscaping throughout the City. Funding is available from the Park <br />Renovation Fund. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />That the City Council takes the following actions at its meeting of June 5, 2007: <br />1. Award a construction contract for the subject project to Planned <br />Environments, Inc., in the amount of $213,369. <br />2. Authorize the City Manager to execute the contract for this project. <br />FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br />The construction contract with Planned Environments, Incorporated is in the amount of <br />$213,369, and staff is recommending a construction contingency of $32,000 (15%) to <br />allow for changes in the work that may be necessary due to unforeseen field conditions. <br />$458,000 is currently available for construction of the project from the Park Renovation <br />Fund. <br />These landscaped median islands are already maintained by the Parks Maintenance <br />Division, and no additional annual maintenance costs are anticipated due to the work of <br />this project. <br />
