9 THE CITY OF -~ ~ -~- ~"' CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT j~L£ ~S~4NTONo December 4, 2007 Parks and Community Services Department TITLE: AWARD OF CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT FOR WEST LAS POSITAS MEDIAN ISLAND LANDSCAPING, PHASE 1, PROJECT N0.037042 SUMMARY Bids have been received for the construction of landscape improvements to the median islands on West Las Positas Boulevard, east of Santa Rita Road. Staff is recommending award of the construction contract to the low bidder, Planned Environments, Inc., in the amount of $213,369. This first phase of the project consists of complete renovation of landscaping and irrigation systems in nine (9) median islands, from Santa Rita Road to Thistledown Court. This work will result in roadway landscaping that is more manageable by the Parks Maintenance Division, provides for better vehicular sight distance and improved attractiveness, commensurate in quality with other roadway landscaping throughout the City. Funding is available from the Park Renovation Fund. RECOMMENDATION That the City Council takes the following actions at its meeting of June 5, 2007: 1. Award a construction contract for the subject project to Planned Environments, Inc., in the amount of $213,369. 2. Authorize the City Manager to execute the contract for this project. FINANCIAL STATEMENT The construction contract with Planned Environments, Incorporated is in the amount of $213,369, and staff is recommending a construction contingency of $32,000 (15%) to allow for changes in the work that may be necessary due to unforeseen field conditions. $458,000 is currently available for construction of the project from the Park Renovation Fund. These landscaped median islands are already maintained by the Parks Maintenance Division, and no additional annual maintenance costs are anticipated due to the work of this project.
