4. If any portion of a basement is located more than 75 feet (22 860 mm) from an <br />approved exit doorway required by code, the basement shall be provided with an <br />approved automatic sprinkler system. <br />5. All buildings with an occupant load of 30 or more on any level and/or more than 55 <br />feet (16 764 mm) or more above or below the lowest level of fire department vehicle <br />access. <br />6. When a change in occupancy classification results in an increased fire hazard or <br />risk due to business operations and/or number of occupants permitted in the building. <br />Exception: Utility and miscellaneous buildings, Group U occupancies, that do not <br />exceed 144 square feet fences over 6 feet, water tanks, and retaining walls. <br />20.08.049 Section 903.3.1.2.2 Added- NFPA 13R sprinkler systems <br />Section 903.1 Amended-NFPA 13R sprinkler systems of the California Building <br />Standards Code 2007 Edition, (24 C.C.R.), and including by reference the International <br />Building Code, 2006 Edition, Volumes 1 and 2 is added to read as follows: <br />Section 903.3.1.2.2 <br />Requirements for a single family dwelling (Group R -Division 3) more than 12,000 <br />square feet. <br />1. The hydraulically most remote 12 sprinklers shall be calculated for each area. When <br />a common sprinkler and domestic water supply is provided, the fire sprinkler demand <br />shall include the simultaneous domestic flow of 5 gallons per minute per unit. The <br />domestic flow shall be added at the base of the riser. <br />2. Sprinklers shall be located in residential areas per NFPA 13D. The flow rate, k <br />factor, and temperature rating for each sprinkler shall be per the sprinklers <br />manufacturers listing for the area covered. <br />3. Sprinklers shall be provided in the attic. Sprinklers shall be spaced a maximum 130 <br />square feet per sprinkler and over all furnaces, water heaters, etc. All attic areas shall <br />be covered (some buildings have several attic areas). Attic sprinklers shall be 200° - <br />212° degree F, quick response or standard response, 7/16" orifice (K=4.0 to 4.5). <br />Sprinkler density to be .10 gallons per minute per square foot. <br />4. Sprinklers shall be provided between floors where floor ceiling assemblies consist of <br />open web joists or trusses. Sprinklers shall be spaced a maximum of 168 square feet <br />per sprinkler. Sprinklers shall be 200° - 212° degree F, quick response or standard <br />response, 7/16" orifice (K=4.0 to 4.5). Fire sprinkler density shall be .10 gallons per <br />minute per square foot. <br />5. Sprinklers shall be provided in the garage. Sprinklers in garages shall be 200° <br />degree F, quick response type, 7/16" orifice (K = 4.0 to 4.5) with a maximum spacing of <br />130 square feet per sprinkler. Fire sprinkler density to be .15 gallons per minute per <br />square foot. <br />49 <br />
