ATTACHMENT 4
_':+.k - J
~'
October 20, 2006
Mr. Mike Carey
327 Saint Mary's St.
Pleasanton, CA, 94566
Subject: Assessment of impacts to valley oak
225 W. Angela St., Pleasanton CA
Dear Mr. Carey:
Puo ~55 _
~~ .~ ~~
:'~.V ~~ ~ 'Q~7
i~I~TY Ui+ ~'~EASANTON
PI~~A~Nii~C DEPT.
You are planning to redevelop the property at 225 W. Angela Street, in Pleasanton. The
city of Pleasanton requested that the potential impacts to trees from the proposed
development be assessed. HortScience, Inc. was asked to visit the site, inspect the tree
and assess the potential impacts to the tree. This letter rBSponds to that request.
Ti~ae observations
I visited the site on October 5, 2006. One (1) valley oak (Quer~cus lobate) tree was
located in the northeast comer of the lot
The tree was 28' in diameter and was
in fair condition. It had a corrected ~,
lean from the base, possibly indicating '.-
that the tree partially up-rooted at
some point in the past (Photo1, '°~~~
inset). Muhiple branches arose at 12'
with narrow attachments. ,
Several wounds were present at
various heights along the tree trunk.
For the most part, these appeared to
be pruning wounds. A large trunk
wound at the base on the east had a
large metal pipe embedded in it
(Photo 2, following page).
Although the the had
grown around the pipe, the
wound is an entry point for
decay pathogens. An
accurate assessment of
internal decay could not be ~
made as the tree had
grown over the pipe.
. `.~
~r._~.urw
Photo 1: The tree was a
';' : 28" diameter valley oak in
t fair condition. It had a full
crown and a corrected
lean from the base (inset).
~ . :~~~.~
.~y:
. . 0. 4:~ -'5d
