The motion as moved by Mr. Thorne, seconded by Mr. Brozosky, was amended to
reallocate up to $500,000 from the Civic Center Site Improvement Reserve (including
expansion of the Library, removal of modular buildings, new City Hall office complex,
and communitytyouth center), to authorize the City Manager to execute any related
documents for a joint project with Pleasanton Unified School District to renovate the
athletic fields at Donlon Elementary School, and to direct the School District Liaison
Committee to review the final renovation plans prior to project commencement with
copies to be distributed to Councilmembers.
Dr. Casey, Superintendent of Pleasanton Unified School District, supported the motion
and thanked Council for its support.
The roll call vote was taken as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers - Brozosky, McGovern, Sullivan, Thorne, and
Mayor Hosterman
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
ABSTAINED: None
There was a recess at 8:53 p.m.
The meeting reconvened at 9:05 p.m.
6d
Discussion of Citv's tennis services. (IR 05:044)
Mr. Wolfe presented the staff report.
Mr. Brozosky noted that at one point the City managed the tennis courts previously
located at the School District Office and exchange, the City took over the maintenance for the
Pleasanton Middle School Tennis Courts.
Mr. Wolfe said that was correct. When the School District was interested in putting in
the day care facility there was some concern from players who utilized these courts. Based
upon those concerns, the decision made at that time by the Council was that in order not to hold
up the daycare facility, which the School District believed was needed for its staff and the
community, the City would take on the same responsibility and manage the tennis courts at
Pleasanton Middle School. Recently, the City resurfaced the Pleasanton Middle School tennis
courts and cracking has occurred. The contractor has been notified to return and make the
necessary repairs.
Mr. Brozosky asked if the tennis courts at Pleasanton Middle School are at City
standards and if not, is it something that needs to be worked on?
Mr. Wolfe acknowledged that cracking has occurred on the tennis courts at Pleasanton
Middle School. The City resurfaced the courts to its standards. He suggested to the Parks and
Recreation Commission that if these courts were going to be lighted, the City should put in
sufficient base to deal with the cracking similar to what was done at the Tennis and the
Community Park. One of the options Council has even if it decides not to install lighting is to
repair the courts and bring them up to City standards.
Pleasanton City Council 13 09/06/05
Minutes
