Removed from the agenda - Review and discuss options for the Iraq War forum <br />MATTERS INITIATED BY COUNCIL <br />Councilmember Thorne questioned if Council has ever looked at eliminating 18 wheelers from <br />Valley Avenue and staff responded that had not been reviewed in recent history. Mr. Fialho <br />noted the difficulty is with the sizeable business park in that area. Staff has been directed to <br />convey to those businesses the established route for delivery of State Route 84 to Stanley to <br />Valley so that they avoid the neighborhood section. <br />Councilmember Thorne asked that staff look at the issue as a part of the circulation element <br />update. <br />Councilmember Thorne questioned funding for Interstate 580 and discussion ensued regarding <br />the status of funding projects. <br />Councilmember Thorne clarified the public has a right to comment on items that have been <br />removed from the Consent Calendar. <br />Councilmember Cook-Kallio commented on her recent attendance at a conference put on by the <br />Bill of Rights Institute. She found the conference fascinating as it related to her role on the City <br />Council. <br />Councilmember Cook-Kallio also commented on attending the California State Finals of We the <br />People and congratulated her team, Foothill who did a wonderful job, and Amador Valley High <br />School who would represent California at the nationals in Washington, D.C. <br />Councilmember McGovern mentioned a meeting held last week regarding the open space <br />property in Oak Grove, and questioned if East Bay Regional Parks had anything that stated no <br />smoking was allowed in their open space parks. She asked if staff would look into a policy <br />regarding that. <br />COUNCIL REPORTS <br />15.
