opportunities to work with other Commissions in the City and other departments with some <br />of the strategies that they already have in place. <br />Councilmember McGovern asked once the committee has determined the direction they <br />want to go, that the Council be kept informed. <br />The City Manager noted an implementation matrix will be completed. <br />Mayor Hosterman commented on the importance of creating a sustainable city for the <br />future of the population of Pleasanton. She thanked the EVC for leading the way. <br />Councilmember Sullivan agreed that the EVC has done great work on this and this is one <br />of two pieces that is needed for a sustainable future; one being the Economic Strategic <br />Plan and then the long-term fiscal picture. He indicated he is looking forward to the next <br />piece. <br />Mayor Hosterman opened the public hearing. Hearing no requests to speak, the public <br />hearing was closed. <br />Motion: It was m/s by Thorne/Cook-Kallio to approve the draft Economic Development <br />Strategic Plan as recommended by staff. Motion carried by the following vote: <br />Ayes: Cook-Kallio, McGovern, Sullivan, Thorne, Mayor Hosterman <br />Noes: None <br />Absent: None <br />MATTERS INITIATED BY COUNCIL <br />Council clarified that they have never taken a formal vote to have a forum on the war. <br />Councilmember Cook-Kallio indicated she was not happy about how this was characterized in <br />the newspaper. It was her understanding that the Council would discuss how a forum would <br />look outside the Council Chambers and didn't see it characterized as a debate. She made it <br />clear that her intention was not to have a Council Meeting, but to have a conversation outside <br />the chambers. <br />Councilmember McGovern stated concern with having aCouncil-sponsored forum. <br />Councilmember Sullivan expressed empathy for those who have children serving in Iraq. What <br />the Council has scheduled is whether or not to have a community discussion and a decision will <br />be made in two weeks. <br />COUNCIL REPORTS <br />Councilmember Thorne mentioned the Audit item on the Consent Calendar, indicating it was <br />outstanding with only a few minor things to deal with relating to Workers Compensation check <br />writing. <br />Councilmember McGovern commented on the presentation at a recent LAVTA Board meeting <br />concerning Route 10 to BART. <br />The meeting recessed to closed session at 9:11 p.m. for the following purpose: <br />City Council Minutes 9 February 6, 2007 <br />
