Vote "yes" on Measure _' <br /> <br />The roll call vote was taken as follows: <br />AYES: Council members - Brozosky, McGovern, Thorne and Mayor Hosterman <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: Council member - Sullivan <br />ABSTAINED: None <br /> <br />6e <br />Authorization to Issue a Reauest for Proposals to purchase eauipment and install a <br />wireless network in the downtown (SR 06:171) <br /> <br />Steve Bocian, Assistant City Manager, introduced Information Technology Manager Alan <br />Hammond and they presented the report to Council. <br /> <br />Mr. Thorne noted that the staff report indicated that police and other staff could access <br />the network outside of the downtown area. <br /> <br />Mr. Bocian stated that the network could be accessed in the downtown. <br /> <br />Ms. McGovern commented about the proposed and probable area of coverage indicated <br />on the map. She stated that there had been some discussion with the School District but she <br />thought it was too difficult to pursue that at this time. <br /> <br />Mr. Fialho stated that the City would be managing the system. It would be on the City's <br />existing system. It is not currently done in connection with the School District. In the future, this <br />could create a unique partnership with the School District. <br /> <br />Mr. Bocian stated that staff has been in dialogue with the School District on this matter <br />and potentially linking all of the schools. Staff will work cooperatively with the District, but this <br />project addresses the downtown <br /> <br />Mr. Fialho said that staff is not recommending working with the School District at this <br />time for a larger project. Staff can talk with the District about how to provide WiFi on its site. <br />The District would provide services on its site, and we can provide some technical support. <br /> <br />Ms. McGovern asked if staff would talk with the School District and coordinate with the <br />District. <br /> <br />Mr. Brozosky cited a network project at the schools. He said that the project did not <br />include all of the school campuses at this time. He asked if this project would affect the <br />merchant terminals in the downtown. <br /> <br />Mr. Hammond described the project in terms of interaction with the equipment; he <br />affirmed that it would not have an effect. <br /> <br />Pleasanton City Council <br />Minutes <br /> <br />15 <br /> <br />06120/06 <br />
