serve the residents of this area to Isabel. She also supported landscaping the medians and
possibly the sidewalks to add beautification to the road.
Written communication was provided to Council from the following Pleasanton residents
who supported retaining the two-lane roadway on Vineyard Avenue between Montevino Drive
and Bernal Avenue, to landscape the medians and use rubberized asphalt on the road surface:
Farrokh Bhathena, Jason Shehab, Jim McCanna, Rachel M. Ganley, and Manoj Punamia.
Vice Mayor Brozosky closed the public comments.
It was moved by Mr. Thorne, seconded by Mr. Sullivan, to direct staff to proceed
with obtaining a consultant to design Vineyard Avenue between Montevino Drive and
Bernal Avenue as a two-lane street with medians.
Ms. McGovern asked staff to apply for a grant. She reiterated her concern regarding
bicycle lanes and asked that the lanes be provided and adequately widened as well as the
median to allow a vehicle to pull over in order to let an emergency vehicle pass.
Mr. Brozosky concurred with Ms. McGovern's comments. He asked if there was a way
to provide an acceleration lane for the Mobile Home Park residents and the residents who use
Grapevine Drive, which would allow the traffic to merge safely onto Vineyard Avenue.
Mr. Wilson said typically with the design, staff would ensure that vehicles could make a
left turn by providing an acceleration lane, which is not a problem because it is within the street
right of way. Staff could address the issue of a right turn lane, which would be difficult as it falls
within a right of way that is not owned by the City.
Mr. Brozosky was concerned about the total cost of the project.
The roll call vote was taken as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers - Brozosky, McGovern, Sullivan, and Thorne
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
ABSTAINED DUE TO A CONFLICT OF INTEREST: Mayor Hosterman
ABSTAINED: None
Mayor Hosterman resumed her seat at the dais.
6c
Consideration of sians on Main Street to identify businesses on side streets within the
Downtown Commercial area. (SR 05:286)
Pamela on, Economic Development Manager, presented the staff report.
Mr. Sullivan asked if sandblasting would give the wooden signs a more weathered,
antique look?
Pleasanton City Council 26 10/18/05
Minutes
----------
