Mr. Sullivan referred to Alternative E and the 800-seat theater and asked if it
were an indoor theater.

Mr. Rasmussen said it was and there was also a plan for a 1,000 seat
amphitheater outdoors in one alternative.

Greg Reznick, 1505 Elderber~j Court, President of the Pleasanton Cultural Arts
Foundation, and Nandor Krause, 3495 Dennis Drive, President of Ballistic United
Soccer Club, made a joint presentation indicating there is cooperation and support
between the sports and arts factions in the community.

Mr. Reznick supported Draft A(1), in particular reserving the space for the cultural
arts center. He acknowledged the urgent need for lighted sports fields.

Mr. Krause noted the need for a cultural arts center to be an integral part of
downtown to be a showcase for the City. He felt placing the center in the northeast
comer of the property would give it the presentation such a center would deserve. He
urged Council to go back to the first draft of the community park plan for guidance on
that.

Mr. Reznick wanted the number; type and size of sports fields in that plan to
remain in the plan and in no event should there be fewer fields than the earlier plan.

Mr. Krause believed the northeast comer was the best place for a cultural arts
center because it was close to downtown and preserved the view shed from the city to
the open fields.

Mr. Reznick also said it was good because it is near an existing traffic signal,
which would make access easier. That would provide a shared parking area for use by
the sports fields and cultural arts center.

Mr. Krause believed this plan would allow flexibility to address the needs of other
groups.

Mr. Reznick concluded by saying the joint presentation allowed all the points to
be given at once without a parade of individuals from each group. He strongly urged
Council to direct staff to proceed with this plan.

Members of the audience stood in support of this proposal.

Mr. Sullivan asked what was their vision of a cultural arts center?.

Mr. Krause said it was similar to what has been described: 800-seat theater,
classrooms, a grassy, sunken amphitheater, (which would serve a broad range of
events). They did not want anything like the Concord Pavilion and did not foresee rock
concerts at all.

Joint Workshop
City Council and Parks and Recreation Commission
2 05/12/05
