Diiip Modi, a Fremont resident and potential homebuyer, was concerned about <br /> expanding the pond and the wetlands near the western portion of the Bernal property, as <br /> it will create a breeding ground for mosquitoes and present a public health risk to the <br /> neighboring community for possible exposure to the West Nile virus. <br /> <br /> Mr. Fialho indicated that he would contact Mr. Modi to explain the planning <br /> process and the timeline for the Bernal property in an effort to try and alleviate his <br /> concerns. <br /> <br /> There were no further speakers. <br /> 6. PUBLIC HEARINGS AND OTHER MATTERS <br /> <br /> Item 6a <br /> Approval of recommendation for use of Citizen's Option for Public Safety Proaram <br /> (COPS~ ADDrooriation. (SR 05:030) <br /> <br /> Tim Neal, Police Chief, presented the staff report. <br /> <br /> Mayor Hosterman declared the public hearing open. There being no comments, <br /> the public hearing was closed. <br /> <br /> It wes moved by Mr. Brozosky, seconded by Ms. McGovern, to adopt <br />-- Resolution 05-009, a resolution approving the expenditure of Citizens' Options for <br /> Public Safety Program funds for fiscal year 2004/05. <br /> <br /> The roll call vote was taken as follows: <br /> AYES: Councilmembers - Brozosky, McGovem, Sullivan, and <br /> Mayor Hosterman <br /> NOES: None <br /> ABSENT: None <br /> ABSTAIN: None <br /> <br /> Mr. Fialho mentioned that the Community Development Block Grant funds are in <br /> the President's prime proposal to be eliminated. The Governor of California has also <br /> potentially considered pulling back on COPS funding for subsequent years. <br /> <br /> Mayor Hosterman noted that the Council would be sending letters voicing its <br /> concerns. <br /> <br /> At the request of Mr. Brozosky, Mr. Neal provided a brief status report on the <br /> tasers that were purchased last year with a portion of the COPS funding that the City <br /> received. <br /> <br /> Item 6b <br /> Adopt resolution to desiqnate all City Fire Departments as Safely Surrender Baby <br />__ Sites.
