This concept focuses on a major central open
space area that includes a series of lakes. Planning for the site recalls its historic past.
Community facilities are interconnected with a strong axial site planning relationship.

Mr. Brozosky questioned the layout for placement of the civic arts center, which
is near the sports fields and how the light would interact between the two uses.

Ms. Temple said that as part of the second phase of the competition, the finalists
were required to prepare a night diagram. The night diagram illustrates the Park in its
quiet moment. Nuvis did not believe that the sports fields and the civic arts center would
be programmed together.

Carmen Bush, Marta Fry Landscape Associates, San Francisco, presented its
plans for the Bemal property. This concept emphasizes agriculture and open space with a
condensed active sports area. Primary uses include eight sports fields (some are to be
shared use facilities) in the northeast comer of the site, civic arts center situated along
both sides of Valley Avenue, trails, agricultural club and fields, regional arboretum, and
interpretative pods.

Mr. Campbell asked what Marta Fry's vision was for the detention basin located
south of the performing arts center?

Ms. Bush said that a boardwalk goes through this area, which connects to the
pedestrian trails throughout the site. Maria Fry believed this would be a good place to
view bird species that would inhabit this area.

Pleasanton City Council 2 10/12J04
Minutes
