The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers -Ayala, Brozosky, Campbell, ttosterman, and

Mayor Pict
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: None

Mayor Pict noted that this is a long-term process and by the time the entire
process is completed, there will elements of each of the five finalists designs that will be
incorporated into the final design. He pointed out that the competition had a consistent
theme to communicate with the community while being sensitive to the environment. He
was optimistic that an incredible legacy would be left for the future of the Bernal
Property.

5. CREATION OF AN ADVISORY COMMITTEE FOR THE CITY MANAGER
RECRUITMENT AND RATIFICATION OF THE MAYOR'S APPOINTMENTS TO

THIS COMMITTEE (SR 04:225)

Mayor Pict said that Council is recommending the creation of an advisory
committee for the City Manager recruitment that includes the current Council and the
council/mayoral candidates. The current City Council would make the final decision.

It was moved by Mayor Pict, seconded by Ms. Hosterman, to establish an ad-
hoc City Manager Recruitment Advisory Committee to review applications for the
city manager position, interview applicants and make a recommendation to the
existing City Council.

Mr. Brozosky noted that it was not a unanimous decision for the current Council
to appoint the new City Manager. He did not believe it was a good idea to hire a new city
manager prior to a new Council being seated. He would have preferred for the new
Council to make this decision. Establishment of an ad-hoc City Manager Recruitment
Advisory Committee allows for an inclusive process and will help Pleasanton attract
qualified individuals.

Ms. Ayala originally believed that the new Council should choose the new City
Manager, but she believes the ad-hoc committee is manageable. She will rely on the
input of the council/mayoral candidates and is hopeful that the final recommendation is
unanimous by both the current council and the council/mayoral candidates.

Mr. Campbell believed it was important to clarify that the council/mayorai
candidates do not have a final vote in choosing the new City Manager. The
council/mayoral candidates are acting in an advisory role and will not have a vote in the
process.

Pleasanton City Council 10
Minutes
