The roll call vote was taken as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers - Ayala, Brozosky, Campbell, Hosterman, and
Mayor Pico
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: None

5. MEETINGS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

Assemblymember Ellen Corbett presented a special acknowledgement to the
Pleasanton Library in celebration of its fifth anniversary.

Other Speakers

Jerry Wagner, addressed Council in opposition to Greenbriar Homes' proposal
for a 97-unit, single-family detached home project on the Spotorno Flat along Alisal
Street. He also commented on the Callippe Preserve Municipal Golf Course.

Jennifer Weiss-Ficklin, a Pleasanton resident, complained about the volume of
noise that is generated by concerts held at the Fairgrounds, which often occur after 10
p.m.

Ms. Ayala mentioned that she would contact Ms. Weiss-Ficklin.

Kurt Kummer, a Pleasanton resident, mentioned that traffic conditions are worse
near Foothill High School as a result of the new traffic signals. Traffic is backed up from
Foothill High School down Foothill Road, Bernal Avenue and Valley Avenue in an effort
to get children to school.

Ms. Ayala noted that this issue was addressed at the City/School Liaison
Committee meeting. She asked staff if there was an update since that meeting.

Ms. McKeehan said that traffic was bad last year and there was no expectation
that the traffic signals would make this situation better. The traffic signals were installed
to accommodate the safety of vehicles entering and exiting the school. Staff is
continuing to adjust the timing on the traffic signal to allow for longer periods of time for
vehicles to enter and exit the school driveway. Staff does not believe the traffic signals
are the problem. The problem is related to the higher enrollment of ninth grade students
than last year. She pointed out that traffic the first week of school is worse than any
other time of the year. She encouraged parents to carpool.

Mr. Campbell believed one of the contributing problems for traffic is the change in
the direction of the circle at Foothill High School. He believed the school needed to
reeducate the motorists in driving through the circle properly.

There were no further speakers.

Pleasanton City Council 4
Minutes

09/07/04
