of money, and many of the activities can be done with the entire family. She pointed out
that there are currently 37 parks in Pleasanton, and 20 facilities that are available for the
youth. Shadow Cliffs Regional Park is a fantastic place to go for hiking and fishing. She
noted that the website for Shadow Cliffs Regional Park describes the park as "a haven for
swimming and fishing, which can be found only a mile from downtown Pleasanton on
Stanley Boulevard." The description of the park can be found under parks and trails, and
there is no mention of a water park or water slides. She believed that people think of
Shadow Cliffs as a park - a place to take the family.

Para Schrader, 3673 Touriga Drive, concurred with the previous speakers'
comments. She would like the City to have the foresight in trying to plan a town that
looks more like Chico, which has a beautiful open park, or Ashland, Oregon or even New
York City, which has Central Park. She would prefer to have the water park built on a
vacant lot near the freeway access. She was concerned about the noise that would be
generated by the water park, not to mention the 14 buses that would come to the water
park every day. She pointed out that there is a nesting of CJreat Blue Herons within about
a half of a mile from the water park. She was concerned that the construction noise
would affect these birds and cause them to move. She noted that the EIR did not take the
nesting birds into account. She was also concerned about the possibility of alcohol.
While alcohol can only be brought in and consumed in the corporate areas, she believed
anyone could rent the corporate areas and bring in any amount of alcohol. If the water
slides were approved, she would like all verbal agreements, such as lower entry fees for
Pleasanton residents, to be in writing so that there is no future misunderstanding. She
reviewed the recommended Conditions of Approval and noted that Condition 43 states
that the consultant shall confirm in writing noise abatement modifications to the City.
She asked if City inspectors would confirm this? If trees are placed in the parking lot,
she believed there should be a density of trees. She preferred the water park as it
currently is, which is very appropriate for small children, and would prefer not to expand
the water park.

Julie Testa, Torlano Court, understood her neighbors' fear, and if she believed
what has been said, she would not support this project. The Youth Master Plan
Implementation Committee did its homework. After several meetings, reviewing the
facts, asking questions, and making requests of California Splash, the Commission
unanimously voted to support this project. Last Tuesday evening, the community's fears
of noise, crime, traffic, and environmental concerns were adequately addressed. She
believed the proposed project was a moderate sized improvement. She and her family
have enjoyed Shadow Cliffs Park and the water slides. She believed there would not be
any encroachment on the remainder of the park. She was glad to see the overlay of the
old and new park, which made it clear that the footprints stay the same. She was
concerned about what the City would be looking at if the project were not approved. She
believed there was reason to believe that this project would cease to exist, which would
leave an abandoned water park. She mentioned that she had worked on the Youth Master
Plan since its inception, and numerous committees prior to that, working on projects and
activities for children in the community. The Youth Master Plan Implementation
Committee was given the charge of making a wish list of resources.
