3. PUBLIC HEARINGS AND OTHER MATTERS <br /> <br />Item 3a <br />PAP-57 (PCUP-63/PDR-243)~ Glenn Kierstead~ California Splash LLC (SR 04:058) <br />(CONTINUED FROM March 16, 2004) <br />Appeal of the Planning Commlsslon's denial of applieatlons for eondltional use <br />permit and design review approvals to expand the existing water park facilities and <br />related improvements at Shadow Cliffs Regional Recreation Area located at 2500 <br />and 3320 Stanley Boulevard. Zoning for the property is Public and Institutional (P) <br />District. <br /> <br />Mayor Pico continued the public hearing and public comments. <br /> <br /> Elle Surber, 4282 Croce Court, asked Council to expand the water park so that she <br />may continue to have her birthday parties at the water slide facilities. <br /> <br /> Rebecca Fawns, 3581 Vineyard Avenue, said that she wanted the water slides to <br />remain open, as it would provide more oppommities for youth to secure jobs. She <br />wanted Council to approve the expansion of the existing water facilities because it would <br />be safer and provide more exciting activity for the youth in the community. <br /> <br /> Emily McCloud, 495 Linden Way, said she wanted to keep the water slides open <br />because it would provide a lot of entertainment for children. <br /> <br /> Pamela Fawns, 3581 Vineyard Avenue, wanted the water slides to be open <br />because it is a good place for entertainment for children, and will also provide an <br />opportunity for teenagers to secure employment. <br /> <br /> Wendy Fawns, 3581 Vineyard Avenue, encouraged Council to consider the <br />outdoor activities that occur at the existing water park facilities. She believed that if the <br />incidents that had occurred at the existing water park were compared to the incidents at <br />the Fairgrounds, it would be found that the water slides are having a fair and positive <br />impact on the community. She encouraged Council to continue to allow the children to <br />attend the water park facilities as an outdoor, exercising opportunity for the entire family. <br /> <br /> Lynne Surber, 4282 Croce Court, believed the total cost involved in going to the <br />movies exceeded the park entrance fee at the water park facilities for an entire day of <br />entertainment. She wished that her children had a great place in the community to go. <br />She was concerned about what would occur with the land if it did not become an <br />expanded water park. She believed the expansion of the existing water park facilities <br />would be a great addition to the City. <br /> <br /> Renee Rodola, 2991 Liberty Drive, said that her house was the closest to the <br />water slide facilities.
