The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmembers- Ayala, Brozosky, Campbell, Hosterman, and <br /> <br /> Mayor Pico <br />NOES: None <br />ABSTAIN: None <br />ABSENT: None <br /> <br />6._ge <br />Authorization to proceed with Request for Proposals for a Library Space Needs <br />Assessment. (SR 04:062) <br /> <br /> Julie Famsworth, Director of Library Services, and Debbie Look, Chair of the <br />Library Commission, presented the staff report. <br /> <br />Mayor Pieo opened the meeting for public comments. <br /> <br /> Pat Murray, 4470 Mirador Drive, a member of the Library Commission, <br />addressed Council in favor of allowing the Library Commission to proceed with <br />development ora Request for Proposal (RFP) library space needs assessment. The <br />library gives one the impression of a great deal of ambiance and space. Unfortunately, <br />most of the space that is available is wasted due to the way in which the building was <br />developed. The library needs additional space for both people and materials. Patrons are <br />concerned about how hard it is to get into the great programs the Library offers. <br />Additional meeting rooms would meet a great need within the Library. Due to the state <br />of the economy, library circulation has gone up. She noted that the community really <br />enjoys and uses its library to its maximum capacity. <br /> <br />Mayor Pico closed the public testimony. <br /> <br /> Mayor Pico supported the Pleasanton Library and understood its current needs. <br />He believed this particular request fits more appropriately under the Council's priorities. <br />If Council chooses to proceed with the RFP for a library space needs assessment, it ought <br />to encompass how the City works with the School District libraries and facilities to be <br />able to jointly use the facilities within this community. He believes there are tremendous <br />competing needs for capital resources, and Council will need to be more innovative in <br />how it uses all of the City's public facilities. <br /> <br /> Ms. Ayala was very supportive of proceeding with the development of an RFP for <br />a library space needs assessment. She pointed out that if Council waits on approving the <br />recommendation, the Library Commission would need to come back and readdress <br />Council on it. She would rather proceed and approve the RFP for a library space needs <br />assessment and fit this into Council's priorities when it held its workshop. <br /> <br /> Ms. Hosteanan concurred with Ms. Ayala's comments.
