Ms. Ayala indicated that she would like to continue this matter to March 23,
2004.

Mayor Pico did not want to see this process continued indefinitely. He said that
he would continue this meeting to March 23, 2004 at 7 p.m. He would allow public
comments from members of the audience who could not be in attendance on March 23.

Mr. Campbell noted that the Council's questions needed to be considered as well
as listening to the public. He suggested that Council ask its questions of staff prior to the
adjoumed regular meeting of March 23.

Mayor Pieo indicated that those individuals who turned in a speaker card and did
not have the oppommity to address Council this evening would be given priority in
addressing Council on March 23, 2004.

Mayor Pico continued with the public hearing.

Norman Houghton, 4064 Cristobal Way, referenced the Council meeting minutes
of May 13 and June 10, 1980. He pointed out that nothing has changed. He has not
heard any new comments this evening by the people who are opposed to the water slides
than what has occurred for the past twenty-five years. He believed the increase of traffic
was due to the growth of Pleasanton and not the water slide park. He concurred with the
report given by Police Chiefs Neal and Lapera and noted there is no crime. The water
park has been good for the youth of Pleasanton and has provided employment for them..
He believed the extension of E1 Charro Road could have alleviated the community's
traffic problems. He urged the Council to overturn the Planning Commission's decision
and approve the expansion of the water park facilities.

Brian O'Reilly, 673 Emerald Street, Livermore, a member of the Tri-Valley
Hunger Coalition, mentioned that Mr. Kierstead donated storage for food to the Tri-
Valley Hunger Coalition. Because of Mr. Kierstead's generosity, the Coalition does not
have to decline any donations for food. He believed it was important that Council was
aware of the caliber of the business people that it has in this community. He pointed out
that the Department of Health and Human Services issued a report showing that 17
percent of all of the deaths in 2000 were from improper diet and lack of physical activity.
He believed the community had an opportunity to extend the life expectancy of its
citizens, and would like the Council to safely approve Mr. Kierstead's project.

Brigitte Ben, 668 Orofino Court, stated that she has been a resident of Pleasanton
for the past 14 years and has taken advantage of Shadow Cliffs Park. She believed it
would be a shame to lose Shadow Cliffs Park. She would not like to see Shadow Cliffs
Park overrun with cars, people and a water park of this magnitude. Noise would be a
huge factor if the expansion of the water park were allowed. Residents of Vintage Hills
will no longer be able to enjoy the peace and quite in their backyards. She believed that
when the noise is factored in, it will be amplified offof the hills and the reverberation

Pleasanton City Council 35 03/16/04
Minutes
