Mr. Campbell mentioned that many people like to walk on the trails. He believed
the experience they get in walking at Shadow Cliffs is not matched anywhere else in
Pleasanton besides Pleasanton Ridge. He noted that Remillard Road would be
constructed next to an existing trail. According to the proposed plans, he did not see any
mitigation for the trail, and asked if the trail would be moved, or ifa new trail would be
built?

Ms. Knutson said that Remillard Road is the fire access road. In addition, there is
an additional walking path that is located just to the south of Remillard Road and as part
of the applicant's requirements, it will need to maintain that walking path for it to be
available.

Mr. Campbell asked if a sufficient number of trees would be planted to mitigate
the trail?

Ms. Knudsen said that along Remillard Road, the applicant has placed additional
trees to the south side of the road, which will screen the road from the Arroyo del Valle
area and the water park.

Mr. Campbell said it sounded good in concept to hire Pleasanton teens to work at
California Splash. He asked how the applicant could discriminate and say it wanted to
hire Pleasanton teens?

Ms. Knutson said that California Splash would like for Pleasanton teens to apply
for employment. It would be easier on California Splash so that it would not need to
recruit outside of the area. She pointed out that California Splash will not base its hiring
criteria on whether an applicant is a Pleasanton resident, but will encourage Pleasanton
youth to apply for employment.

Mr. Campbell asked if any discussions were held with McDonalds to discuss
parking and the potential for that parking lot to be used if patrons of California Splash
chose not to pay for parking? He asked the applicant if it envisioned that patrons would
park in the McDonald's parking lot and walk to California Splash?

Ms. Knutson said that California Splash has not had any conversations with
McDonalds, but it had these discussions with the planning staff and the Planning
Commission. The nature of the water park is for family activity and she believed it was
unlikely that someone would walk one mile with his or her children to attend the water
park. There will also be ample parking available with the amount of parking spaces that
California Splash will be providing. She believed that this would take care of the issue.

Mr. Brozosky noted that he had the same concern and walked the area. He
mentioned that it took him 20 minutes to walk to the water park starting from the
synagogue and McDonalds. He noted that there is a short cut path that shaves five
minutes off. He discussed this with EBRDP and EBRPD said that if it became an issue,
they would barricade the path. He did not believe the typical patron attending the park

Pleasanton City Council 16 03/16/04
Minutes
