Merltage Group, ~t Goldman and gcott gtanko. Auto Tech l~n~ne Rebuiklers was also
recognized as a Certified Crrecm Business. Councilmember Campbell presented plaques to
those businesses in attendance.

Various business owners expressed their appreciation for the recognition.

Mr. Brozosky recognized the City's First Annual Residential Electronic Waste Collection
Day. He encouraged residents to bring their electronic waste items to the Operations
Service Center for recycling. "E-Waste Day" will be held on November 22 and will be
publicized.

Other Speakers

Mayor Pico acknowledged a written communication from Vanessa Kawaihau,
871 Sycamore Road, who was unable to be in attendance. Her letter mentioned that on
September 24, an overwhelming number of homeowners voiced concerns over impacts
fi.om future developments planned on Lund Ranch II and/or the unincorporated Foley
Ranch. She also included her concerns with traffic intended for the bypass road. These
concerns were reiterated at the General Plan Update community meeting held on October
1. Ms. Kawalhau was concerned because if Lund Ranch II was not built, it could have an
impact on the funding for the bypass road and other issues. She wanted to remind
Council that the North Sycamore Plan and the Happy Valley Specific Plan includes Lund
Ranch and the building of the collector roads, as intended, add protection and
preservation for the semi-rural Happy Valley area, Their happiness and preservation are
dependent on the bypass road and will disappear without it. She also raised a concern
about the sharing of costs and asked what would happen if the funding developers did not
participate because their development proposals were eliminated.

R. Jo Molz, 7580 Driftwood Way, Blankets for Kids, presented handmade
blankets that were made for abused and neglected children. She noted that there are
300,000 abused and neglected children in the United States. Donations received are used
to buy the materials needed to make the blankets. The blankets are made with love and
care by senior citizens at Ridgeview Commons. They make anywhere from 25 to 45
blankets a week. The blankets are shipped to Los Angeles to a foundation that has a
means of distributing them to the abused and neglected children in shelters. Donations are
welcomed and appreciated by contacting her at blanketsforkids~sbcglobal.net

Charles Huff, 30 W. Neal Street, suggested an architectural competitive process
for the Bemal Property to look at alternatives for use of the property. He was also
concerned about the timing of the traffic signals on First Street and mentioned that
anyone who shared his concern could contact Jeff Knowles at the City of Pleasanton. He
thanked Mr. Campbell for highlighting the Phoebe Hearst exhibit to be displayed at the
museum.

Pleasanton City Council 6 10/07/03
Minutes
