now because of the golf course construction workers. The City should be able to control its
contractors and she should not have to call the City regularly to complain.

Albert Wiemken, P. O. Box 969, resident of the Mohr/Martin area, expressed concerns
about the width of Martin Avenue. He handed various photos to Council and noted Martin
Avenue is only fifteen feet wide. He indicated he would contribute to the cost of widening and
asked whether this project could be included in the CIP soon. He wanted to add four to five feet
to the width of the road. On another topic, he thanked Council for its efforts to honor military
personnel.

There were no further speakers.

6. (SR 03:222)

Jeff Knowles presented the staff report.

Mr. Campbell asked about the comment this may take away funding from other
transportation projects. Does that mean other projects are more important?

Mr. Knowles said about $55 million in Prop. 42 monies were diverted to the 1-580 HOV
lanes and the option that preserved BART down the median was taken from the original Tier 1
project.

Ms. Ayala said Supervisor Haggerty has continually expressed the need to put all options
in the EIR and asked for clarification.

Mr. Knowles did not know why direct bus service between the ACE train station and the
BART station was not being funded. The BART study clearly shows the ACE service is
handling all the demands between the San Joaquin Valley and San Jose area. There is a lot of
pressure from Livermore for a BART extension, since its residents have been paying funds for
many years.

Pleasanton City Council 6 08/05/03
Minutes
